The countdown starts

The release date for the Little Giants documentary has been pushed back to April of 2008. So that you can keep track of the time and start the countdown, I've teamed up with a really amazing clock manufactured by Furni...this very rad outfit from Canada for this limited edition clock.
It has a custom signature stamp on the back and is available in limited numbers. But for those of you who have to get up early and need the death chimes to rouse you from slumber, you might as well do it in style.THERE ARE ONLY 50 OF THESE AVAILABLE SO GET YOUR ORDERS IN ASAP. THEY WILL NOT LAST LONG. And they will make an awesome Christmas gift.

Check the site at www.furnicreations.com. While you're there, browse around. They have the best looking clocks out there today for the modern pad.

So the date to keep in mind is April, 2008. There's a lot of working going into this production so the extra time is important.

Thanks to everybody who sent feedback about the SLAP Magazine interview. I finally got a copy and was able to check it out. As usual, SLAP did an amazing job with the issue. There's a Habitat in Ohio story and an interview with Mark Mothersbaugh as well. So pick it up the next time you're out.

Working steadily on some more projects that I'll be able to tell you about soon enough. Until then, keep checking back. I should have a few special HALLOWEEN paintings by the end of this month for sale. Creatures and monsters and things like that.

As we get into filming for the video, I'll have some real time updates in conjunction with our friends at Mumble Magazine. You won't want to miss out.
Thanks for stopping by. More soon.

We're still here.

Have you guys got your copy of 'In Rainbows' from the Radiohead site? Amazing. In concept and execution.
Pay as you like will probably be the new standard for music once musicians start to finally get a fair shake.

I'm participating in a benefit to help a lucky skater's efforts to get a skatepark in his or her town. The sponsored skatepark fund-finder campaign is an engaging new way for municipalities and organizations to generate the sort of awareness that propels local support, as well as opportunities to receive financial and in-kind product donations to seed your skatepark project fund. The current contest runs through November 30th.

For further information, click here.
Artists include Wes Humpston, Kris Markovich, Andy Mueller, Christ Pastras, Skin Phillips, Craig Stecyk and myself. Sounds like an amazing opportunity to get the wheels rolling on a skatepark in your home town.

Lastly, I have an interview in the November issue of Slap Magazine. Pick it up if you get a chance. I've always been a fan of Slap...Mark Whitely did a great job with the questions.
More soon.

Up in arms; down in front.

Sorry for the delayed entry. I've been busy, been hosting visitors and all the other things that come with summer.
Back on track for a minute in regards to elephont. For now.
About 2 months ago, a guy that I'd never met sent me an email asking me if I'd do a tattoo for him. A whole sleeve, actually.
I'm not really in the tattoo business. I've done some for friends and people have had them done from t-shirts or decals, but I don't
really have the time or inclination to sit down and do custom tattoos. Just not my thing.
This guy was serious about it though. And very genuine. So we worked out a few kinks and about 2 weeks ago, he
jumped on a plane, came to Dayton and I drew on his arm so that he could take it to his tattoo artist and have it done up proper
and permanent like.

So here are the results. We both had concerns about how much time would have to go into making this a reality, but we were realistic
about it. So far, he has the outline complete and he has lots of photos and video of the original so it should come out looking just like the
sketch you're looking at. For privacy's sake, I won't reveal the name of the guy who had it done. If he's OK with it, I'll post it in a future update. After he gets some more work on it, I'll post some more images of the final tattoo. Pretty rad, project and the guy ended up being really cool. 100% skater, no
doubt. Great dude and heck of a good sport
.

:
Which brings me to another tattoo project I worked on for my friend, Eric. He lives in L.A. and couldn't just come over to get the artwork so I drew something up that he wanted. After about 12 different versions, he got the one he was stoked on and took it to a tattoo guy to get it inked. So this is the actual tattoo. And yep, it's on his neck. How's that for some permanent dp lovin'? So here are some pics of that he took the day after he had it worked on.
It wraps around both sides so there is a lot more to it but maybe I'll put those photos up at another time.

I'm not kidding...please don't email me to ask me to do a tattoo for you.

I'm stoked that people want my art on them but like I was saying, I just don't have the time. Having someone want your art on them for life is the ultimate compliment. But it's tough and I barely hav the time to do the things I have to do. So that's just a fair warning.

In final elephont updates
for the day, Bob K.'s Little Giant video series is coming to life finally. He'll be coming to Dayton to start work on mine sometime in September. It'll be distributed by the fine folks at 411 VM, so you know you'll be able to find a copy somewhere in a town near you. So I'm stoked that it came together and I'm stoked that Bob and Crownfarmer viewers chose me to be the first one in a series.
Bob also has a kind of art show up right now of pieces in his office. Lots of good things in there so check it out while you're over at Mumble Magazine.

Recent news: Had some artwork in a show in Spain somewhere and in Canada somewhere and had several prints not make it back to me from the Vice show back in October of 2006. If anybody sees them floating around, drop me a line.
Did a few interviews, mostly overseas publications but if I can find links to them when they come out, I'll post them.

Also, I did get a nice photo and a package from Isaac McKay-Randozzi. Check out his site because there's lots of good stuff in there.
Isaac, I'm working on something for you soon, my friend.

MORE STUFF SOON. I know my updates have been spotty but I have a bunch of stuff I want to put on the Time Machine section...older things I found recently and just some fun stuff from the last decade. If you've sent me an email recently, hang tight. After I dig myself out of a few projects, I'll get back with you.

GSD invented the boneless

Yesterday was Go Skateboarding Day so I hope everyone was able to roll around for a while.
Alien Workshop, DC Shoes and Active put on a nice event at the DC Plaza in Kettering yesterday (down the street from me)

with Dyrdek, Berra, Mikey Taylor, Devine Calloway and Sean Malto.
It was part of the Hot Dogs and Hessians Active stops.
Word is that they blew through 250 dogs in just a little over an hour. I witnessed an autograph line that was about a block
down the street so skating is alive and well in Ohio.
Later, Berra, Mikey and Shane from Active stopped by to shoot the breeze. Good times, good day.
Steve is working on the final edit of his film, 'The Good Life,' which got a lot of positive reveiws at Sundance Film Festival.
More news on that as it progresses but I can't wait to check it out.

Don't forget to link to the Darkroom video if you have a site. It would be greatly appreciated on this end.

ps: SUPERGOTH™ update in the Time Machine!

• June 20, 2007

Newer version of the video sketches uploaded

It's that second video box under the Darkroom video. Newer version, never seen, never used. Just random art that Ackels filmed last year. Enjoy.

• June 20, 2007
Darkroom promo uploaded

The Darkroom promo video, 'Feature' is now available to check out. If you haven't heard of Scott Pfaff, Kevin Terpening or Dave Ackels, keep an eye out for all of them. Tons of thanks to the team for pulling this together and thanks to Ackels for making it happen.
I know lots of you are wondering about the next line...it's around the corner and there's a lot of good stuff this time so hang tight.
In the meantime, enjoy the video.
UPDATE: Finally got a higher quality compression uploaded. You may want to let the file load before starting it to avoid skips and to keep the audio synch.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have linked from the old version or have it posted on a site, please update the old version with this newer version, thanks.

Art? What art?

This was random sketch footage and images for a project that was never seen.
This is the unreleased version and there is no audio.

Sometimes instead of sketching in a notebook, I do it on the computer.

Can you believe that some people still don't believe that global warming is actually happening as I type this?
Although I know someof these people aren't much on logic, this logically presents the case for reason.

(thanks to Steven Vogel again for the link)

Mark Penxa? I'm working on a series of six collaboration paintings with him. I'm sure we'll show you the

results as soon as they're done. I met Mark a long time ago though Andy Jenkins' bendpress site.
Penxa is supergood.

ps: Do you guys like Lou Dobbs? I sure do.

OH, another update in the time machine.

pps: PLEASE watch for some movement on the Darkroom site. New promo video, 'FEATURE' will be up soon.

Art so gross it causes nausea, headaches and seizures?

Wow. Have you seen the shitstorm that thisLondon 2012 Olympic logo has caused? Stories of the logo inducing migraines and seizures?
And it cost more than $800,000 to 'design'?
I'll design one for them for $20,000 and I promise it won't cause a single seizure. Get in touch with my people and I'll ink the contract.
I've openly made fun of all things artistic for many years. But stuff like this never ceases to amaze me. If anyone knows what font 'London' is typed out in, send me an email because I get stoked on sans-serif, slanted text.

• Rob & Big: Tuesdays, 10:30 pm

I get a lot of emails asking if I did some of the paintings on the wall at Rob's place. I met Rob a long time ago and was fortunate enough to do his graphics for many years.
I did a series of six paintings that hang in there and I'm in good company. If you watch closely you'll see paintings from Mark Gonzales, Dave Kinsey and Jackass honcho Jeff Tremaine, among others. Rob has quite a collection.
Rob and Big airs Tuesday nights at 10:30 so be sure to catch it tonight. Rob's not just an MTV dude, he's also still holding down a model at AWS, he still designs shoes for DC, he's got his hands in Rogue Status and still designing Skate Plazas from what I understand.

***New post up in the Time Machine section.

TattooapaLouza

This is the arm of my friend Lou Capparelli. The first two are of his forearm and the last two are his upper arm. Full sleeve sketchpad style.
He basically just stuck his arm out and said, 'sketch some stuff on there.'
And so I did. And then he got it tattooed by Durb Morrison in Columbus, Ohio.
I've seen a lot of tattoos of stuff I've drawn in my day but this is the first full sleeve.
He definitely gets the Down for Life award.
If you've got tattoos of things I've done, send me a .jpg of it and maybe I'll do a little thing where I pull a name out of a hat and
send out a shirt or sketch or something. (my email address is at the top of the 'garage sale' link.)

Sorry I've been slacking. Lots of work. That time of year. Gotta get out once in a while and so on and so forth. Keep checking back.
Pretty please. At least once in a while. I've got more Time Machine updates coming real soon.

What's the price of life?

I don't think I can legally say all the things I want to say about this video on my website,
but if it doesn't make you ill, you're missing something upstairs. That's for sure.

-thanks to Steven Vogel for the link.

Oh, snap. Another update in the time machine.

• May 21, 2007

You don't agree
But you don't refuse.
I know you.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I was out of town for a bit on 'business.' I went to a Morrissey concert (4th row) and could have hit the guy with a spitball I was so close.
Not that I ever would, of course.
Morrissey put on an amazing show per usual and at one point, fellow Ohioan/current Vice documentarian Patrick O'dell even battled up onto the stage to give the old boy a hug. At least not all the front row tickets went to waste. I don't think most of those people even knew who Morrissey was before the show.
I'm sure they do now.
My friend Becky took some pictures:
Behold the deafening quality of camera photos!
I'll be updating the Time Machine later on this evening and be back on a regular schedule soon for those of you not interested in reading about Morrissey concerts.

Juggling Knives (still.)

Working on a lot of projects currently...lots of fun stuff. Skateboard stuff. Sorry for the lack of updates. Was in WV for a while and the weather has picked up in Ohio so I haven't been hovering over the computer so much. In true Midwest fashion, it went from snowing to fiery hot in a matter of 3 weeks but I'm not complaining. More updates soon.

• May 9, 2007

Juggling Knives (again.)

These 2 paintings are from the old 'Juggling Knives' exhibit I did online a few months after I'd gotten out of the hospital for a heart condition.

I had some emails asking me about the inspiration/execution of 'Hold on Loosely' from the 'Make the World go Away' exhibit and I referenced the two paintings below from 2001.
It's not generally a style I've used as skateboard graphics, but it's a style that is fun and natural for me to work in. Very much just like a sketch with a little more, always a story in there somewhere if you look closely enough.
By the way, 'Hold on Loosely' (actually one of my favorite pieces from that show) is the last work remaining for sale. I have 2 emails from interested parties which will make it a SOLD OUT show as far as that goes. So I wanted to say thanks for the support I received from everyone who purchased a painting the last few weeks. I say it alot, but I do appreciate it very much.
Erich Lehman, who owns the one on the right, also bought another piece from me from this show. Dude has been supporting my work for a long time now. Thanks, Erich.

Wake the Sheeple (updated).

General Batiste: "Protect America, Not George Bush"
Seriously. What's it going to take? People used to think that supporting the soldiers means supporting the war: Just not so.

in not so serious news:
ps: I know I have a tweaked sense of humor, but I thought this was funny in a marketing kind of way.
pps: Note to self: stay up North.

OK. No more random links.
ppps: another update in the Time Machine.

'New Moon' in stores today.

Kill Rock Stars releases 'New Moon' today. It's a double CD of demos and rarites from the late, great Elliott Smith.
Go pick it up. It's an amazing collection of work.
Speaking of Elliott Smith, I helped raise money for his memorial fund last year with a few painted decks. Check them out here.
Finally, another update in the Time Machine.
I have so much stuff that I may start to double up on those posts. Keep stopping by to check them out.
Has anybody else noticed that it's that time of years when spiders are everywhere? Here at elephont, we hate spiders.
We always have.

'Time Machine' up and running.

You can either click on the Time Machine icon on the left side rail or click here.
This section is dedicated to random sketches and pieces that were generally never seen over the years. I'll also throw some newer stuff in there once in a while but check back every day as new things are added. Might be a photo, might be an old t-shirt design, could be a sketch. But I'm going to try to keep it fairly up to date.

Also, there is a 'garage sale' link on the left side rail as well. I think there are 3 paintings that are still availabe from the 'Make the World Go Away' exhibit. Don't forget that all paintings come with a sketch or a print or something else fun. Email me for prices of the work available and don't forget that there are still signed Darkroom prints in stock in that section also. I'll let you know if anything else gets added as the site develops.

Thanks for stopping back by.

You guys remember Mark Penxa? Of course you do.
We've got grand plans to do some collaborations together.
Once he came to visit me in Dayton and took this photo of a kid in a tree. PS:Even though it seems timely now, it wasn't anywhere near Halloween.
Go over and visit Mark here. He always has some fun stuff going on.

How about Isaac McKay-Randozzi? He's got a lot of good photography up on the regular over at Mydumbluck.com

4 years ago to the day after claiming, 'Mission Accomplished'...

Someone's taking a horrible situation and make it, um, horribler.

And in lighter news...

I found this site that asked readers to illustrate their favorite songs from 'The Smiths.' An interesting concept and some very interesting submissions.

Memory Lane aka The Ghost of Me

Yes, there was a time when I dedicated myself full-time to breaking myself off. Check out this old digitized VHS footage of random stunts of curiosity and damage.

I have a little page set up now for a few things that I have for sale here. I'll be updating it periodically with a few random sketches and paintings so check back once in a while. As the site gets closer to being complete, I'll have a permanent link on the rail for the page.

Some stuff that's going on: Dave Ackels is currently putting the final touches on the Darkroom promo video that will be featuring the Darkroom team: Ackels, Scot Pfaff and Kevin Terpening. I hand picked these guys because they're all super creative and talented and they agreed to hop on board. I just have to say that it looks amazing so far so I'm looking forward to getting it out there for people to see.

I'm also interviewing Dave for the next issue of Stuck Magazine and doing the layout for it. I'll let you know when it comes out as the print date gets closer.

I'm getting ready to start work on a shop deck for Atmosphere, a skate shop co-owned by John Drake in Charlotte, NC. I grew up skating with John who eventually went pro for Alien Workshop. Speaking of Alien Workshop, have you guys seen their Filmworks site? Greg Hunt has taken the reigns of filming and editing over there and he's offering updates along the way as the full length gets finished. Not only that, he's posting older AWS footage from guys like Fred Gall and Josh Kalis from the Timecode video (1996). Hop on over there and check it out.

Finally, I'm trying to get together a section of older artwork that has never been used on anything. There will also be newer stuff so it should be an interesting mix of art that I'll will be updating daily. When I get it together. Seriously. For real this time.

ABOVE: Basically, this is a backside grab ollie. I think it was supposed to be a mellonchollie but it didn't work out that way.

LEFT:
This was outside of the skateshop that I worked at and skated for in Huntington, WV. It was called Iguana Sportgear and it was home for me while I was in college. Someone found an old desk and dragged it right by the door to the shop. So we skated it for about a week and then someone stole it. Frontside boardslide with a kicker.

Mumble Magazine Online Exhibition

Work from the 'Make the World Go Away' exhibit (Butcher Block Gallery, Louisville, KY) will be online at Mumble Magazine along with an interview and some old skate clips. Pieces not sold at the opening will be available for purchase online. Email me for info. Please send the name of the piece you're interested in for price and shipping information. (NOTE: email is webmaster(at)elephont.com...type it in, thanks.)

Speaking of Louisville, the opening went really well. Many thanks to Matt and Lindsey Dobsen for inviting us down there for the exhibit. Also, thanks to everyone who had a chance to come out and say hello and view the artwork. Friday was the last show at the gallery but Matt and Lindsey will carry on the Butcher Block name with other spaces soon.
Eric Butler from Ourartsite.com worked up an interview for the Louisville show that you can check out here.
This is all I have finished of the new site so far, but much more is in the works. Keep checking back for daily news and site updates as things progress.
There will eventually be an area updated daily of non-published work from over the years, an updated deck archive and a random area for photos and other things to stare at.

From Under the Dust

I'm back. Admittedly, I've been rare for a few years but I have a hard time faking it when I'm not having fun. I had too much work, not enough time to answer emails, update the site or create new work for it so I just let it sit for a while. I needed it, but it's nice to be back.

Make the World Go Away

For those of you who will be near Louisville, KY on April 20th, 2007, stop by the Butcher Block Gallery for the 'Make the World Go Away' show. It's a one-night only event, 15 new paintings from me and 15 from Dave Ackels.
Should be a fun show. It was originally slated to run several weeks, but due to circumstances beyond the gallery's control, the show will just be up for one night. So get there while you can.

Bob K. has developed a new online magazine called Mumble. The first 'issue' is up right now with lots of rad articles and features on art, skateboarding, music and other fun stuff. Check it out. Bob is also the ringleader over at Crownfarmer and he always has something going on over there as well so keep it on your 'places to visit before I die' list. My book is the first slated for the Little Giants series...there will be more news on that soon. I was also graciously drafted onto Team Crownfarmer. Bob stays busy. That's why we admire him.

Friend of Elephont, Ray Underhill is currently being successfully treated for a brain tumor that was detected late last year. Ray's friends have created a website so you can keep up to date with his progress and to help raise some funds for Ray's expensive treatment. You can help. There will be online auctions with all proceeds going to help Ray fight through this. Stop by the site, leave a message, get news and help out if you can. I'll have some items available for an auction when those go live. Our best wishes go out to Ray and his family for a speedy recovery.

Check back tomorrow. We'll see how long I can keep this up
